Description

Drowning in tar pits seems like a pretty rough way to go.

Then again, this is Frank Miller, and in the hardboiled world of Sin City, that form of murder might be preferable to some alternatives.

(In fairness, our “hero” Dwight ultimately makes it out alive. Sorry if that’s a spoiler, but the Big Fat Kill is from 1995. 25 years seems like a fair amount of time to catch up on these things.)

Big Fat Kill (BFK) is the fourth of Miller’s Sin City sagas, and one of the three stories featured in the first Sin City film. (I can’t recall if the tar pit scene made it into the film. Guess it’s a good excuse to watch it again.)

As for actually drowning in tar pits? According to my anecdotal internet research, It’s harder than you might think.

But it makes for one very cool original art page,

The Pits scene did in fact make it in the film. And its as badass to watch as it is to view here. Congrats!

A fun dive into the world of Sin City.  Many times in this series, Miller inks like people are covered in tar that is dripping off their faces for that serious heavy look.  The dino and slashing rain effect in the first establishing panel is very cool as we get the full context of where this winds up.

This is a darkly sticky way to die; as black as it gets in hard boiled Noir! He survived! Frank, you wimp.

Super page!  Really effective drowning-in-tar imagery ---- Miller's storytelling is always outstanding

Another Miller character swallowed by inky blackness. Fitting. This is such a striking page, and I think only Miller could get the black quite that black. And I love that sinking death stare behind him. La Brea ain't just for dino bones, Dwight. But I'm glad he gets back out. Vengeance. Big fat congrats!
