Guitarist and Composer David Gilmore has recorded and performed with many of today’s most influential modern artists. He has toured and recorded with Jazz legend Wayne Shorter (appearing on Mr. Shorter’s Grammy Award winning album, High Life (Verve), Dave Douglas, Rudresh Mahanthappa, Esperanza Spaulding, Christian McBride, Muhal Richard Abrams, Sam Rivers, Steve Coleman, Cassandra Wilson, Don Byron, Uri Caine, Randy Brecker, David Sanborn, Lenny White, Cindy Blackman-Santana, Trilok Gurtu, among many others. He was also a member of the popular jazz/fusion group Lost Tribe, and co-produced their first two recordings for Windham Hill.

Gilmore’s first CD, Ritualism, was nominated for the 2001 Debut CD of the Year, by the Jazz Journalists Association. He has appeared several times in the Downbeat Magazine Rising Star category, and has been compared to guitarists as diverse as George Benson, Jimi Hendrix and Leo Nocentelli. Gilmore has received numerous composer grants, including two Chamber Music of America, New Jazz Works Grants, enabling him to create the commissioned works “African Continuum” and “Numerology Suite.” His recording of “Numerology” received critical acclaim including four stars in Downbeat Magazine. Committed to an improvisational approach that reflects a global awareness, he conducts master classes around the world. Gilmore holds a degree from New York University and is a Professor at the prestigious Berklee College of Music in Boston. His most recent recordings as a bandleader are: Transitions (Criss Cross) featuring Mark Shim, Victor Gould, Carlo DeRosa and E.J. Strickland, which garnered 4 1⁄2 Stars in DownBeat Magazine; and From Here to Here, (Criss Cross) released in the Spring of 2020, featuring Luis Perdomo, Brad Jones and E.J. Strickland.
