Since the 1980s, the American M1 Abrams series of tanks has been widely regarded as among the finest main battle tanks in the world. This volume is a concise look at the background, development, and Army and Marine operational history of the Abrams from the 1970s to the present. The author, who brings a unique perspective and authority as a former M1A1 tank gunner with the United States Army's 1/104th Cavalry, was granted behind-the-scenes access to photograph the US Army's collection of rare tanks at Fort Benning, Georgia. He also shows the Abrams tank's service in lesser known places—not just Iraq and Afghanistan—such as Cold War Germany, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Somalia, and others. Part of the Legends of Warfare series.

This book has a unique angle- it's by an actual M1 Abrams tanker with years of hands-on experience on the Abrams tank, who was also granted access to research and photograph some of the rarest tanks in the Army's collection. It has 40 years worth of historical and new photos by professional military photographers, form the 1970s to the present day. it covers basic gear used by Abrams tankers for decades. If you're looking for spread sheets detailing every variant of nut and bolt used in the tank, and find that exciting, this book is not for you. If you like beautiful photos that show the Abrams from testing ground 1970s to today, and a story told from the unique perspective of an actual Abrams tanker, this is the book for you.

It's a vanity book, and a good number the photos are the author's happy snaps. A bunch of the photos are of his gear, nothing to do with the tank and adding little to the subject. The text is superficial, with almost no depth or discussion. The photos are unorganized and versions are mixed on the same pages without explanation. As a memory book (not a memoir, as there is no narrative) it's nice. As a reference it is at best not useful.

Quelques photos intéressantes mais pas d'informations techniques ni sur l'histoire (opérationnelle) du tank. Aucun intérêt informatif.
