Although it took a while to get here, it’s the best bang for buck option. Simple to assemble and use. Currently cloning my drive at the rate of about 30k files for 5 minutes - not too shabby — that’s out of 1 million (see picture). After reading about some people having shorting issues I took precautionary measures to set up the drive without any access to any power. In other words, I connected all the wires to the drive before plugging either end (usb wire and plug) to any power source. Once I was ready i connect the usb wire to the computer before inserting the plug into an outlet. Not sure if this prevented anything, but better safe than sorry 🤷🏽‍♂️.Overall good buy. Hope this was helpful.

I guess I can't say anymore than it works flawlessly. I just rebuilt our one system and since I was not going to utilize the old hard drives I wanted a way to simply connect them without actually installing them. This did exactly that without a hitch. I am not sure what people are quibbling about as far as quality but compared to other pieces of equipment that I have had over the years, this is more than on par. No drivers to install as everything is native and makes hooking up a drive a snap.

The one option that I would expect in a more expensive model is after 10-15 minutes of non-activity--- it would shut the drive down/ make it sleep. Since this is a tool to make [my] life simple and solve an age old issue--- it is perfect the way it is.

I was able to migrate all of the data that I needed to and it was extremely fast and had a solid physical and data connection. What will be nice is that if I forgot to transfer something over.... I'll be able to do so quickly and when I'm done, I can put it all away.

I own a more expensive Blue dongle that I've been using for a while. However, I had multiple drives and really needed more dongles. I decided to grab a couple of these. They're cheap, so I figured it couldn't hurt. Glad I did. These work better than my more expensive blue dongle.

First off, these will detect when a hard drive loses power and remove it from windows WITHOUT having to unplug the dongle. They will also detect when the drive attached powers up and activate the drive in windows without having to unplug and replug the dongle in. My blue more expensive dongle must be physically unplugged to do that. A bit of a pain when the USB ports it is plugged into are in the back of the PC. It is such a convenience I've ordered another of these to use instead of the blue dongle.

I must say though, the power blocks are pretty flimsy made. If you were to unplug and replug the power cord from the block several times, I'm sure it would break very quickly. They do work though. Also, this device does not have an LED to indicate drive activity. Not a problem when doing stuff with the windows GUI, could be a problem for any command line guys where there is no progress indication. The dongle itself is very well made. The cord is shorter than the other one I have. It is also thinner but that isn't really an issue.

All in all, I recommend these. They work very well. Just be aware of the issues that I've listed and as long as those aren't a problem for you, grab yourself a good deal on a useful product.

For my purposes, this product was great. I only need this to occassionally access an old IDE drive from my laptop. It couldn't be easier to use and has been totally reliable.

If I was going to use the IDE drive on a regular basis, I'd consider another product. This is definiately a lower-end product. It's great for occassional use, but I'd question the durabiliy of the cables for heavier usage.

The shipping was super fast. Everything was just as seen in the picture. I was able to boot up one of my spare hard drives and access on my main computer. However, when I went to plug in another one, the surge blew on the power cord and wasn't getting any power at all. Luckily, the USB cord still worked fine and I was able to plug my spare hard drives(I had about 10) into a power supply and power them from that. Overall, I am happy with the USB cable and all the cables except for the power cord.

3 in 1 USB 2.0 To SATA / IDE Adapter Cable + Power Cord

PLEASE NOTE: This item was NOT sold by Amazon, but they did ship it. The seller was listed as Apollo23

I ordered this to help a friend retrieve data from an IDE HDD. Received the package today (9/18/2013) and the power supply shorted out (sparks, smoke and burnt plastic smell) within 10 minutes after connecting. My computers (yes plural) never recognized the HDD. When disconnecting the drive, one wire on the molex connector "fell out" from the metal connector. Unfortunately, sending this back may cost more than what I originally paid, so I'm out money, time and possibly a HDD. I'm starting to wonder if I received a repackaged return from one of the other 1-star ratings since the zip lock baggie containing the components looked very used... Just sayin'.

Needless to say I will not be buying other items from the seller due to this bad experience.

It took weeks to finally decide to get this device. My old PC crashed and shut down sometime in April and I'd been hesitant to retrieve anything from the old hard drive, fearing it might be corrupt. However, since it was only $12.00 I didn't have much to lose, so I tried it, and it's working beautifully. I started accessing the old files last night and, on the cautious side, I unplugged the USB side as soon as I was finished (for the night). I've heard about these devices crashing new computers and there was one account of the device actually catching fire, but...we'll see what we'll see. For the moment, I'm satisfied with its performance and its price, and the fact that if it does continue to work well (fingers crossed) I can also use it as an external hard drive. One last thing, I asked the Amazon community about whether this is the right thing, etc., and they were all reassuring and very helpful. I thanked them all individually, but I'd also like to once again say thanks.

12/26/12 I received the second set from the seller. It seems to be working fine.

12/20/12 The seller is very prompt in responding. He said and called me to inform me that he is sending a new power supply. I will update the status when I receive the new power supply.

12/19/12Don't buy it. The power supply did not work at first. With soome efforts when it did work it cut off during data transfer. I had to provide power supply from my desktop.

Contacting seller to fix the problem. Will update when I hear back from them.
