BACK IN THE GAME

After taking a self-imposed hiatus from the Hollywood treadmill after 2002's romantic comedy Two Weeks Notice, Sandra Bullock basks in the limelight at a press event in Sydney (on March 17) for Miss Congeniality 2: Armed and Fabulous.

LOVE CONNECTION

Bullock and boyfriend Jesse James, the heavily tattooed star of The Discovery Channel's Monster Garage, say aloha in Hawaii (in July). The couple met when the actress, who previously dated actor Matthew McConaughey, toured his show's set last year with her 10-year-old godson. Still, wedding bells aren't ringing for Bullock: She has said she's happy to remain unmarried.

WHAT A DRAG

Bullock's goal for Miss Congeniality 2 (the sequel to her 2000 hit) was to make it "a buddy movie and not a romantic comedy." In the film, her FBI agent Gracie Hart is partnered with Ray star Regina King. "We're like the new Mel (Gibson) and Danny Glover," Bullock has said jokingly.

Bullock loves pampering her pooches, Kernie and Bob (left, she gives one of her dogs a lift in December). During her break from the big screen, she says she spent much of her time playing with her pups, sipping Starbucks and reading home-construction magazines, which Bullock says are "like erotica to me."

Bullock was game for the antics involved in being named Harvard's Hasty Pudding Woman of the Year in 2004. Among the tasks: leading a parade of students dressed in drag and being roasted by members of the Ivy League school's theatrical company. The actress displayed her more serious side when she donated $1 million to the Red Cross to help the Southeast Asian tsunami victims in January.

HOLIDAY SPIRIT

Who's that girl? Under her furry costume, Bullock (with beau Jesse James doing his best gorilla impression) hands out candy to trick-or-treaters in New York City on Halloween last year. The actress splits her time between the Big Apple, Los Angeles and Austin. In October, she won a $7 million legal victory against a developer whom she charged did defective work on a dream home he was building for her in Texas.

"It really comes down to toilet humor," says Bullock of her bond with pal Hugh Grant, whom she met while costarring in Two Weeks Notice (the two joke around at the London premiere of Miss Congeniality 2 earlier this month).

The actress looks every bit the trendy Hollywood starlet while shopping in Beverly Hills (left, in December), but she blends right in while browsing at a New York City supermarket (in November). "I'm not going to be the person who's going to get dressed to leave the house," she says about her out-and-about attire.

When it comes to meeting fans, Bullock likes to get right in the middle of things (in London earlier this month). While filming a Miss Congeniality 2 scene in Las Vegas, a newlywed couple stumbled onto the set. "Sandy hugged them and even did a bit on their wedding video," says costar Enrique Murciano. "That's the type of person she is."
