Donald Trump has one less awkward situation to worry about with Nicolas Sarkozy’s defeat in France — given that the US president-elect once claimed to have had an affair with Sarkozy’s wife, which she roundly denied and which a biographer said Trump planted.
In 1991, long before supermodel Carla Bruni met and married Sarkozy, Trump claimed they had a brief affair while he was separated from first wife Ivana Trump. But Bruni told the Daily Mail, “It’s so untrue, and I’m deeply embarrassed by it all. I’ve only ever met him once.”
Harry Hurt III, author of the unauthorized Trump biography “Lost Tycoon,” said that the mogul began the rumor himself.
If Sarkozy had regained the presidency in France, it could’ve made for an uncomfortable first summit meeting.
