Is an absolute must. Tucked away in its cozy space are original cinema artifacts dating back to the 1900s and beyond. From the early days of film to the groundbreaking camera inventions, and even some of the largest cameras in the world (yes, they still exist!). It's fascinating to see how everything still works, I recently caught an old short film there, and let me tell you, it really made me feel like I was transported back in time. It's not just a museum; it's a journey through the history of cinema. And here's a thought – by supporting places like this, we're not just preserving history, but also ensuring that future generations get to experience it too. So, why not pay them a visit? Let's help keep this unique knowledge alive and thriving, not just here in Colombia, but all across South America.

Visiting the Caliwood museum was one of the great highlights of our trip to Medellin. The staff clearly have such a love for cinema. The museum focuses on the apparatus of film making and film projecting. I have never seen another museum like it in the world. It covers the history of film from magic lanterns, through projectors illuminated via carbon arcs, through modern projectors. We watched some short films that were over 80 years old. Check out one of the few wire recording machines in the world. Every guest gets a little bit of film as a souvenir.

But what really made this museum stand out was the owner, Hugo. He is a fascinating guy. He took his love for cinema and built a museum around this love. He speaks great English and gave us a personal tour of his museum. He took a personal interest in our family and even helped us to book hotels along our onward journey. Even more fascinating is to ask him about classic cars in Colombia. I would love to see Hugo build a classic car museum in Colombia.

For movie lovers, you cannot miss this place, small but with a lot of love for the seventh art... you learn what is behind the movies... that which cannot be seen and that over the years has evolved to have what we live today … highly recommended, check if the guide speaks English before you go, as the guide made the experience a lot more interesting.

This museum had one of the best collections of analog/film cameras and projectors I've ever seen, lots of movie posters and even a camera that belonged to acclaimed Colombian writer Andres Caicedo. Very friendly staff and a well organized audio tour, I learned so much! Highly recommend for any lover of movies.

The museum is a unique place where you can see at the same site the history of cinematography and photography, with impressive models and short movies from all around the world. It feels like a time capsule that takes you to a different era every 10 min.
The staff is super nice and the place is in a good neighborhood close to the center. So, all in all, you can't leave Cali without visiting Caliwood!

In cinema, Cali is the most emblematic city of Colombia, which is why it has the only museum of cinematography in the country. This place holds unique relics that tell the story of how Colombia experienced the arrival of cinema more than a century ago, and how this society has been shaped by this art. This exceptional story can only be told by the museum guides, Santiago and Hugo, who are significant members of the history of cinematography in Colombia. You should not miss the opportunity to visit this invaluable museum and to support this independent institution.

Caliwood is a great way to spend an afternoon when visiting Cali. It is a small museum with a fascinating collection of cameras, movie projectors, film posters, and more. The museum alone is really cool, but what made my experience great was the eagerness and attention from the owner Hugo and tour guide Camilo. They made sure everyone who visited knew everything there is to know about the collection and even show you about 15 minutes of old films on various projectors at the end of your tour. They also give you a small piece of film before you leave, which is an endearing touch. My favorite pieces were the world´s largest camera and the world´s smallest cameras, but there are tons of other cool displays with a focus on Colombian film. I hope that you have a chance to visit during your time in Cali.
