In recent times, the Hips Don’t Lie singer was in Colombia. She had traveled back to her hometown to visit her father. William Mebarak is currently recovering from critical brain surgery. After reliving some of her early days back in her hometown, the singer is now on vacation. Currently, the Waka–Waka singer and her kids are in Costa Rica at Tom Brady’s ex’s holiday home.

Honestly, nobody ever imagined that her popularity would reach such an unimaginable level. The mayor of Barranquilla recently revealed his plans that have truly stunned the fanbase. Jaime Pumarejo plans on building a statue of the Latin American singer. Interestingly, he asked the singer to choose the location for it. From the looks of it, the mayor was quite serious about it.

Simply because he reposted the video of his announcement on his own Twitter handle. Pumarejo proudly declared, “We will make a statue that will pay homage to one of the Barranquilleras that fills us with pride. Shakira! Help me choose where we put it!”. Without a doubt this a proud moment for the Mebarak family and the whole of Barranquilla.

Yino Marquez will lead this special project. In Barranquilla, this would be Shakira’s second statue. German artist Dieter Patt made her first statue in 2005 with steel. With a five-meter height, the silhouette of the singer is accompanied by her acoustic guitar. Apart from her music, the singer has gained the utmost level of respect for her philanthropy in Colombia.
