Why this petition matters

This petition is demanding the resignation of Judge Dolores Lozano, Harris County Justice of the Peace Precinct 2, for her usage of racial slurs, hostility toward women, and anti-LGBTQ+ statements issued on her personal X account, formerly known as Twitter. All posts have been archived in the Wayback Machine, archive.org. As of Oct. 29, some still appear on her X account.

Such behavior is unacceptable, especially from someone in a position of power and influence. It not only goes against our community values but also undermines the principles of respect, equality, and dignity that we hold dear in Houston and Harris County.

According to Ballotpedia.org, Lozano won the Democratic primary on March 1, 2022, against Blair McClure, and ran unopposed in the November election. She assumed office on Jan. 1, 2023. Her current term ends on Jan. 1, 2027.

On Oct. 24, 2023, posts were uncovered from Judge Dolores Lozano’s personal X account, in which she used the “n-word” on at least eight separate occasions beginning in 2010. As of Sunday, Oct. 29, 2023, Lozano has yet to issue a public apology or explanation for her harmful and hate-filled words. As of Oct. 27, she has since deleted her previous posts using the “n-word” but has not directly addressed her previous remarks. Her usage of the “n-word” is as follows:

  • “Keep the cockiness in your pants ni***a” | Dec. 2, 2011
  • "ladies if he doesn't want you, get over it. there's no reason to fight over a ni****a that DON'T want you, #smh" | Dec. 27, 2010
  • “virabadassx3 ni***a! We need to bring you to the club next time” | Sept. 25, 2011
  • “@Gmann_21 I have to care of Sophia! My grandma can’t take care of her alone.. So come over ni***a” | June 7, 2011
  • “@tiaraar shut up! I was talking about smoking ni***a” | April 23, 2011
  • “#BUawardcategories most likely to cry over a ni***a that’s going to jail.. smh” | April 6, 2011
  • “@theREAL_ERIC yess really ni***a – that’s why you’re with me right now.” | Dec. 26, 2010
  • “@tiaraar hahahha fuck a ni***a, money make me cum – funniest shit ever.” | Dec. 15, 2010
  • “@tiaraar ni***a got a baby – damnn that’s a NO NO, another lowblow. #smh he fine thooo” | Dec. 13, 2010

On Sunday, Oct. 29, a series of additional X posts were revealed in which Lozano wrote previously disparaging remarks against women and the LGBTQ+ community:

  • “A tacobell with @TemptingTy making fun of this one girl with a group of baseball players, trying to guess how many she’s slept with lol” | May 4, 2011
  • “I just hate girls who put the blame on the guys when in reality the blames on them for opening their legs.” | Sept. 12, 2011
  • “#1ThingICantStand ugly girls who post pictures on facebook in their bathing suit.” | June 22, 2011
  • “@UrKoolerThanMe lol it’s okay to dress like a hoochie if your ugly, because that’s the only way ugly girls get chose lol jk” | Oct. 12, 2011
  • “@KevFromThe90s yeah, gahhh there’s like four Pasadena girls I fuck with because the majority of them are skanky!” | Dec. 23, 2011
  • “I hate dikes!” | Nov. 25, 2011
  • “Pretty girls usually get screwed over for ugly girls because ugly girls are EASY.” | March 11, 2012
  • “i hate when ugly girls post a million picture of themselves on facebook like they’re cute.. #smh” | March 14, 2011

Lozano wrote all of the above comments while she was an adult. Due to these horrific posts, a failure to apologize and take accountability, this petition is calling for Lozano to resign.

Using her own words from an X post on July 14, 2021, “we really need to start calling people out on their pervasive anti-black sentiments at work and in our communities.”

On Oct. 10, 2022, she furthered that “Racism, colorism, & anti-Blackness is real within the Latino community. Ya’ll don’t want me to get started with all the disgusting comments I’ve heard in my community—in my presence. We have to ALWAYS call these people out on site. They have absolutely no place in public office.

We agree, Dolores. This type of language and sentiment in Houston and Harris County is unacceptable and it starts with you taking ownership and leading by example. If you are who you truly claim to be as an elected official, you’ll take action, follow your own words and demands, and resign. Full stop.

According to a 2019 report by the Pew Research Center, Houston and Harris County is one of the most racially and ethnically diverse cities in the U.S., making such a series of posts and comments harmful and divisive. We cannot allow this kind of conduct to go unaddressed. Let us stand together against racism, anti-LGBTQ+ intolerance, and disparaging comments toward women by demanding Dolores Lozano’s resignation.
