Celebrate July 4 in Central Virginia with fireworks, events

America's birthday is coming up this weekend with plenty of activities from fireworks to carnivals in the Central Virginia area.

Lynchburg

Fireworks on the Riverfront
The Downtown Lynchburg Association is again hosting Fireworks on the Riverfront. Located at Riverfront Park, a fireworks show is scheduled for July 1 right after dark around 9:15 pm.

Celebrate America
Thomas Road Baptist Church's annual Celebrate America is set for Sunday, July 3 starting at 5 pm. The event includes an evening of live music, food trucks, activities and fireworks to end the night.

Poplar Forest Independence Day Celebration
Celebrate with a reading of the Declaration of Independence on July 4 at 1:30 pm. Admission for adults into the grounds is $10, but kids can get in free and enjoy a day of colonial artisan demonstrations, archeological displays and pony rides.

Red White and Boom
Open to the public, join Harley Davidson on July 2. The event starts at 11 am and offers ice cream for sale and a raffle with a chance to win a Fourth of July party pack.

20th Annual Percival’s Island Firecracker 5-Miler
The race is taking place at 8 am with a start point at Blackwater Creek Natural Area Percival's Island and follows the Blackwater Creek Bikeway.

Celebrate the Fourth of July with the Hillcats at Bank of the James Stadium
The Lynchburg Hillcats are playing a baseball game against the Salem Red Sox at 6:30 pm on July 2 followed by a fireworks show.

Ronnie Roberts Classic high school all star game at Bank of the James Stadium

The Lynchburg Hillcats play host to the 3rd annual high school all star game, pitting Seminole and Dogwood District Seniors against each other. Game time is 6:30pm on Monday, July 4th, with fireworks to follow.

Bedford

Before the Works Independence Day Festival
The event is on July 3 at 5 pm at Liberty Lake Park, where food vendors, live music and activities keep visitors entertained until the fireworks at the end of the night. Admission is $10 for adults.

Appomattox

Firefighters and Fireworks
Join other visitors to watch fireman's competitions and engage in festivities on July 2. Food trucks will offer barbecue, hot dogs, pork rinds, kettle corn, snow cones and other snack items and the night concludes with a fireworks show.

Fireworks on the Appomattox
Offering several locations for the best view of fireworks, the primary location is at the John Randolph Medical Center campus. City Park and Hopewell Riverwalk are both open for visitors, and the fireworks will also be visible from the Hopewell City Marina. The show begins at 9:30 pm on July 2.

Brookneal

Independence Day Celebration

Patrick Henry's Red Hill is hosting a celebration on July 4 starting at 3 pm. Food vendors will be on-site to provide visitors with food while Patrick Henry will give his speech at 7 pm. Other activities throughout the event are open for participation until the fireworks show begins at 9:15.

Concord

Concord Celebration of Independence Day
Starting at the Concord Elementary School, the parade begins at 10 am on July 4. Food may be purchased at the fire station at the end of the parade.

Danville

Danville Fourth of July Celebration
Set for July 4, gates open at 6 pm at Carrington Pavilion for a celebration. Visitors can enjoy food from vendors, live music and a speech from the City of Danville Mayor. The fireworks display begins at dusk.

Smith Mountain Lake

20th Smith Mountain Lake Fireworks
Parkway Marina is the venue for the July 2 fireworks show and festivities. Live music and activities for kids are planned, and you can even watch the fireworks from your boat.

Independence Day Fireworks at Mitchell's Point Marina
Watch fireworks from your boat or from a chair at Mitchell's Point Marina starting at 7 pm on July 3.

Roanoke

2022 Freedom First Festival
The whole family can enjoy food and activities all day starting at 11 am at Elmwood Park. Live music, lawn games, and more activities take place throughout the day until a 6 pm concert and a fireworks display starting at 9:30 at nearby Rivers Edge Park.

Salem

Salem Fair Fireworks
Virginia's largest fair has a wide range of its usual attractions with a fireworks show at 9:30 pm on July 4.

Buchanan

Buchanan’s 68th annual 4th of July Parade and Fireworks
The parade lines up at 4 pm on Main Street in Buchanan, and visitors can make their way to the Buchanan Community Carnival before the fireworks display begins at 10 pm.

Blacksburg

34th Annual Blacksburg July 4th Parade
Join the parade on July 4 at 2 pm with this year's theme of "Thanking Medical Personnel & First Responders." The parade begins at the corner of Eheart Street.

Summer Arts Festival presents Independence Day celebration
Beginning with the parade at 2 pm, Blacksburg continues its July 4 celebrations with live music at Municipal Park at 6 and a fireworks display at 9:30.
