Urban Cultures: Where did the emos go?

Years ago, it was fashionable a slightly strange trend, which seems to have disappeared or is seen very little, as it is the case of my city, I remember that for 2009 there were approximately hundreds of young people with this appearance, in particular I had many friends who they looked like this, nowadays they look more mature without forgetting what they once were: emos.

But for many who are beginning to live their adolescence or who are already older and had no idea that this fashion existed, I will tell you a little about what is treated or treated:

What are emos?

The emo, is a subculture that really began in the 80's in the United States and then or little by little it became more popular in the world, this social or cultural group, is clearly influenced for the music of the emo or hardcore genre and its gradients. The aesthetic is very peculiar and I imagine that you have seen them once, their origins really began to develop by the year 2000 when it was already established as a subculture that has a mixture or influence of punk rock. rockabilly, grunge, cultures like the goths and skateboards, it really is a mix, but I remember very well that many times the trend deviated a bit from the dress and was a bit depressing, many of these so called "emos" were hurting themselves I do not know if it was part of the fashion or a kind of suicidal tendency, I always saw it as a way to draw attention to reality, but the truth is that many people who were really depressed or rejected were wrapped in this culture to feel Somehow accepted and understood.

The clothes and the look

As I said, some people took this aesthetic because of the way they felt, I think it has to do a bit of the root of their name "emo" as part of "emotional", the look that was handled was from clothes to the hairstyle (the latter was very important), the pants were piping very tight, the shirts were flannel type or short sleeves usually with names or logos of rock bands and the hair was very smooth, black or colored with a big fringe that covered half of their faces, covering their eyes, many times you could see an emo makeup with dark shadows in their eyes, it does not matter if it was male or female.

Ideological Current and personality

The ideological current of these guys was a little depressing (some), as I explained the origin of the word emo goes very hand in hand with his very emotional and shy personality, rejected by society according to them, they became thousands and it was a worldwide trend between 2000-2010, the truth is that many of us use something of this style, I never wear bangs, but I liked their trousers and the other shirt with the name of bands, the truth is very marked the line between rock and any subculture that derives from it, suddenly nowadays many emos we knew do not look at all like when we became friends, they have a more mature look, or are professionals, etc; I think this is like everything, tendencies and fashions very conducive to adolescence.

I do not know if they still exist, in my hometown I did not see any again, I suppose if there should be in bigger cities and maybe their culture has evolved a little and they have another name, what exists in their cities similar to emo nowadays? I hope you liked my article, regards.

They grew up I guess, when I was a teen there were a lot, I guess it was just a passing trend.

Yes, in my city there were many, I met several, they are people with a more "normal" style, but I think many evolved into hipsters, lol.
