Joaquin Phoenix is rocking a new haircut that we can’t quite wrap our heads around.

The actor, 46, stepped out to the New York Film Festival on Tuesday with the middle of his head buzzed short, and the side pieces kept long and gray.

While Phoenix covered his head with a black beanie during a Q&A for his forthcoming film “C’mon C’mon,” he exposed the uneven chop while walking the red carpet in an Animal Liberation Front hoodie sweatshirt.

In the black-and-white movie, a radio journalist named Johnny (Phoenix) embarks on a cross-country trip with his young nephew (Woody Norman). Gaby Hoffmann plays Johnny’s sister, Viv, in the film, which will be released Nov. 19.

However, it’s another movie that’s responsible for the quirky buzzcut. Phoenix shaved his head for his role in “Disappointment Blvd.” – and has apparently let it grow out at different lengths.

While not many details of the Ari Aster-directed film are known at this time, Phoenix stars in the comedy horror about “one of the most successful entrepreneurs of all time,” according to IMDB.

Michael Gandolfini, Parker Posey, Nathan Lane and Patti LuPone are also pegged to the project.
