Excitement for the upcoming Water Street Pedestrian Zone Pilot, this July and August, is building and support for businesses is expanding. This week, Council voted to: ✔️ Waive fees for the new and expanded patios and merchandise displays participating in the pedestrian zone pilot. ✔️ Contribute $20,000 towards restarting the Gastown Business Improvement Society’s parking initiative, which will offer visitors 3 hours of free parking once a week during the pilot. “This July and August, we’re transforming Water Street into a vibrant pedestrian zone and I couldn’t be more excited,” says Mayor Ken Sim. “It’s important to me and this Council that we support our local businesses, be it waiving patio fees or supplementing free parking. We’re testing new and unique people-first initiatives here in one of Vancouver's most iconic neighbourhoods and we’re determined to make it a success for all.” Read more ➡️ https://ow.ly/qF6o50RCgfY

🌟 Exciting News! 🌟 We're thrilled to announce that Vancouver is at the forefront of adopting digital credential technology to enhance municipal services! In a pioneering collaboration with our provincial partners at Technical Safety BC, Land Title and Survey Authority of BC (LTSA), and the Ministry of Citizens’ Services, we are leading the way in reducing the need for manual verification steps in permitting and licensing services. 🔒 What are Digital Credentials? Digital credentials are securely issued and encrypted, enhancing trust in their legitimacy without the need for additional verification from the issuing authority. They allow for quicker filling out of forms with trusted information, significantly cutting down on manual verification and speeding up service delivery. 🏡 What's Next? We are actively exploring further applications of digital credentials, including Digital Business Licences, Digital Certificate of Qualifications and Digital Homeowner Credentials. We are committed to continuous innovation and improvement and look forward to making our services more accessible and efficient for everyone. Stay tuned for more updates as we progress! The Cambie Corridor is expected to have 50,000 new residents by 2040. That many people could mean an extra 25 million liters of sewage in our system per day!🤯 We’re exploring ways to improve Columbia Park, Alberta Street, and 43rd Avenue while improving the area’s sewer and drainage services. Based on community feedback, the new concept design for the Alberta Street Blue Green System and Columbia Park Renewal Project will provide: ✅Updated amenities and more access to nature in Columbia Park. ✅New active transportation options for walking, biking and rolling. ✅A park-like street that connects people and urban wildlife with nature between Queen Elizabeth Park and Columbia Park. ✅Improved rainwater management for a safer neighbourhood that supports nature.
