Facsimile, Leipzig 2007thWith commentary by Reiner Behrends, Konrad Kratzsch and Heinz Mettke. Under "Biblia pauperum" we understand a writing of the Middle Ages, which is to be determined by the Christian typologically. About eighty manuscripts Biblia pauperum remain. They originated exclusively in the German language and are distinguished by their age, the number of image groups, the order of these groups of images and Schreibeigentümlichkeiten. The Weimar manuscript contains - an exception among the known copies - depictions of the apocalypse. On the Apocalypse fol. 1r bezüglichder provenance of this tip, that they come from the Benedictine monastery of St. Peter and Paul in Erfurt. In 1803, the secularization of the monastery and 1809 has the ducal library in Weimar acquired include this here in facsimile present manuscript. "The parchment manuscript surprised by her folio format of 48 x 33 cm, which is unusual for a copy of the Biblia pauperum and by the abundance of the spring drawn and colored watercolor illustrations, amongst which are the images of the visions of the Apocalypse interest an extraordinary capable of arousing. When considering the Apocalypse illustrations notices immediately that she did not like the illustrations for Biblia pauperum from small, highly agitated and sometimes confusing acting images exist that contain a lot of details, but that it is generous, renouncing to detail drawings. Their strong effect the color has a significant share. Blue and green dominate, added bright and iridescent colors, for example, violet and rich use of gold leaf. The illustrations of the Weimar manuscript emerged in all detectable differences from a workshop. They come from two signatories, was artistically more important to them by the Creator of the Apocalypse illustrations. The leaves have emerged in the second quarter of the 14thCentury, probably between 1340 and 1350.The place of origin of the Scriptorium Benedictine monastery of St. Peter and Paul in Erfurt was probably made .
