Empresas Publicas de Medellin (EPM) Edificio Inteligente, Antioquia Columbia

epm medellin columbia

The Edificio Inteligente building now holds Columbia’s utility company EPM. The massive structure for 5,000 employees is called the “intelligent building” because of its many ‘smart’ feature. A moat full of fountains surrounds the building to suppress fire in the case of an explosion (not very comforting).

The public square runs straight through the guts of the cantilevered structure, yet there are few interior walls which allows light to stream in from the interior courtyard. This project was completed in 1996, has 120,000m2 space, and 14 floors.
